A Letter from Dr. Marty

Hi, this is Dr. Marty. I hope you’re all safe and healthy during these challenging times.

I’ve received many requests for advice on pet health issues, so firstly, I’d like to thank you for reaching out and entrusting me to advise on the health of your companion.

Please know that every animal has different needs and requirements, and in order for me to help, I would have to establish a proper patient-doctor-client relationship, then run specific tests that would only be possible with an in-person consultation. Because of this, I will not be able to address requests at this time.

Currently, I’m on sabbatical after 47 years from clinical practice to be able to educate on a more global level and to finish writing my second book. If your pet needs veterinary help, my #1 advice for you would be to seek an integrative veterinarian in your area for a hands-on consultation. This way, the veterinarian will be able to address your pet’s specific needs and closely monitor their progress.

You can find a comprehensive list of all US integrative veterinarians at ahvma.org. If you’d like to visit Smith Ridge Veterinary Center, the clinic I helped create, my incredible associates see patients from all over North America and offer comprehensive telephone consultations involving your own veterinarian when appropriate. Please visit smithridge.com to learn more.

If you have any questions about Dr. Marty Pets premium freeze-dried raw food or formulas, please visit drmartypets.com. For specific requests, please contact the fantastic customer care team at [email protected].

Thank you so much for your understanding. I hope you and your furry friend stay safe and healthy.

Gas, Mental Well Being and Yeast Infections

Gas, Mental Well Being and Yeast Infections

CHRONIC YEAST INFECTIONS

Chronic, yeasty ear infections are one of the most common problems plaguing our K-9 companions. Something as simple as a dilute solution of apple cider vinegar mixed in water and used as a rinse for the ears can be as effective as any medication in helping to ward off these smelly, aggravating ear conditions.

MENTAL WELL BEING OF OUR PETS

Where would a person be without a purpose?
Our pets also need purpose in their lives. Purpose plays a significant role in providing mental stimulation and developing wellbeing. Encourage your pooch to carry that newspaper into the house, or have your cat find and catch that little catnip stuffed mouse.

DOES YOUR PET SUFFER FROM GAS?

If so, this could be caused by feeding a diet high in grains and grain by-products. Try feeding more high quality meats with vegetables, and keep the carbohydrates to a minimum. Also add a good source of digestive enzymes, and a pro-biotic supplement. All of these are available at specialty pet shops or through most veterinarians.

Anxiety, Treats and Bathing

Anxiety, Treats and Bathing

ANXIETY IN YOUR PET

Does your pet tend to act overly anxious, or fearful, in unfamiliar situations? Does he or she seem uptight during thundering rainstorms? Or, does your dog or cat pace aimlessly through the house whenever a member of the family is away? If so, whatever the cause may be, a few drops of Bach’s Flower Essence, Rescue Remedy, in his or her mouth, a couple of times a day, may help.

This natural formula aids to restore calmness and harmony in two to three days. It’s great in soothing human nerves too.

PET TREATS

When buying treats, be sure to reach for those that are derived primarily from meat, poultry or fish sources. Leave behind those snacks that are high in grain by-products, fillers and preservatives. And, try to divide larger treats into several smaller ones, to keep your dog or cat fit and trim.

LATHER UP YOUR PET

There are few things as refreshing as a nice bath.
And, believe it or not, most canine companions would agree, so why not take some quality time and give your pet a good wash?

Periodic baths don’t only keep dogs clean they also keep them accustomed to being handled.
During cold, winter months, just be sure to bathe your pet indoors.
And, use an herbal or oatmeal based shampoo that’s free of sodium laurel sulfate type ingredients.

Supplements & Arthritis

Supplements & Arthritis

EASY WAY TO GIVE SUPPLEMENTS TO YOUR PET

Giving supplements to any companion animal is always a good idea, but try explaining that to your dog. Here’s a helpful hint. Using a coffee grinder, grind a tablet into a powder, and mix it with a spoonful of meat flavored baby food.

Your pooch will love it so much he or she may even start begging for more.
Capsules can be opened and sprinkled in some baby food, too.

ARTHRITIS IN OLDER DOGS

As larger pooches get old and arthritic, it can become more of a strain for them to bend their necks down to the floor to eat or drink. Treat your dog today to an elevated feeder and then watch just how much easier it becomes for them to eat their meals and drink their water with much less strain.

Vaccinations & Heart Disease

VACCINATIONS

Remember, rabies is the only vaccine legally required in all states in the United States. If your pet has been vaccinated for other diseases, the immunity can also last several years.

The next time you’re asked to update your pet’s vaccines outside of the rabies vaccine, request your veterinarian to run a titer blood test to determine existing immunity levels.

HEART DISEASE IN PETS

Heart Disease is an all-too-common illness among pets? That’s right, but the risk of getting heart disease can be minimized, and in some cases, even prevented.

Be sure to feed your pet a good amount of high quality meats, and ask your veterinarian about adding the supplement Co-Q-10, which helps to regulate and support normal heart function
